NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK 2024

 

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK 14th Nov-20th Nov 2024 


ILA (Indian Library Association) declared 14-20 November has been celebrated as National Library week all over India Since 1968 and various programmes are organised to let the public know about the libraries.

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.Library week celebration is a boost to promote the reading habits among the students. 



Ranganathan, in full Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan, (born August 9, 1892, Shiyali, Madras, India—died September 27, 1972, Bangalore, Mysore), Indian librarian and educator who was considered the father of library science in India and whose contributions had worldwide influence.

Andhra Pradesh Library Association organised an All India Library Meeting in 12 November 1912 in Madras. This meeting lead to the forming of Indian Library Association. Later ILA declared 14 November as National Library Day. Since 1968, 14–20 November has been celebrated as National Library Week all over India and various programs are organised to let the public know about the libraries.

Shri Iyyanki Venkata Ramanayya or Ayyanki Venkata Ramanaiah recognised as the “Architect of Public Library Movement in India” was the man behind the formation of Andhra Pradesh Library Association. He was honoured with the award of “Granthalaya Pitamaha” by the Maharajah of Baroda. The Government of India honoured him with the Padmashri award.
Our Vidyalaya organised many types of competitions on National Library Week.

National Sports Day is celebrated annually on August 29th in India. This date marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the most iconic figures in Indian sports history. Learn more about why this day is celebrated.

Every year on 29th August, India comes together to celebrate National Sports Day. This event commemorates the birth anniversary of one of the iconic hockey players, Major Dhyan Chand. National Sports Day not only celebrates his birth anniversary but also emphasises the importance of sports and physical activities in our daily lives.  As we observe National Sports Day 2024, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the significance of sports in fostering national unity, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and inspiring the younger generation to engage in physical activities.

When is National Sports Day Celebrated?

The man known as "The Wizard of Hockey," Major Dhyan Chand, was born on August 29, 1905. He became one of the best-known Indian players in the world for his outstanding hockey skills. 

Further, Major Dhyan Chand was an important player in India's three straight Olympic gold medal wins in 1928, 1932, and 1936. He became a legend in the sports world because of his unmatched accuracy in scoring goals and ball control.
Major Dhyan Chand started playing in 1926, and his career spanned till 1948. He represented India in 185 games and scored a whopping 400 goals during his career.
In 2012, the Indian government declared his birthday as National Sports Day in recognition of his contributions to Indian sports. His commitment, self-control, and passion for the game are celebrated on this day, motivating athletes throughout the nation.
