World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to promote reading, publishing and copyright. World Book Day was first celebrated on 23 April, 1995. The date as decided by UNESCO as it was the death and birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, a world famous author.

WORLD BOOK DAY HISTORY- In 1995, UNESCO decided to celebrate April 23 as World Book Day or World Book and Copyright Day, and since then, the date has prominence in the history of literature. April 23 marks the death and birth anniversary of many other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla, and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Therefore, it became obvious to UNESCO to choose April 23 to celebrate World Book Day worldwide.
